Please be aware that Dates for the courses have been changed.
Dates for 2025 :
Week 1: Monday 28 July – Friday 1 August 2025
Week 2: Monday 4 August – Friday 8 August 2025
Venue: Katherine Warington School, Lower Luton Road, Harpenden AL5 5FH
Times: 9.30am – 3.30pm. Please arrive and collect your children promptly each day.
Monday 9.30am
Arrive at the Musicale Summer Holiday Course and register through the main entrance of KWS. Parents and carers will need to sign children in and check their contact details are correct.
Parents will be given an emergency mobile number to contact Musicale at KWS on the first morning.
Please do not arrive early as we will be having a staff meeting to ensure your children are kept safe during the week. Musicale will not be responsible for your children until 9.30am during the week.
We will escort Step up to Music students to their classroom.
At about 9.45am the Course Director will give a short introduction to all the students on the 8 – 18 year old courses in the hall. Parents do not need to attend.
Tuesday – Friday 9.30am Arrive at the Summer Holiday Course & head straight to your rehearsal rooms to register
Daily timetable (for guidance may vary for each course):
- 9.30am Session 1
- 10.45am Break
- 11.15am Session 2
- 12.45pm Lunch
- 1.30pm Session 3 / Activity time
- 2.45pm Break
- 3.00pm Session 4
- 3.30pm Home
Friday Concerts
- 3pm Step up to Music in the Drama Studio @ KWS
- Wear Musicale T-shirt (made on the course) and leggings, shorts or trousers
- 6.30pm Orchestras and Wind bands in the Main Hall @ KWS
- Wear all black, no trainers
- Please be back at KWS at 6pm to warm up
- 6.30pm Musicale Theatre in the Main Hall @ KWS
- Costumes TBC
- Please be back at KWS at 6pm to get ready
Orchestras and Wind bands – Essentials to bring:
- Your instrument in a named case.
- A named music stand
- A pencil and a rubber – students will write instructions in their parts (NO pens please!)
- Cellists need to bring aspike protector
- String players need to bring rosin and spare strings
- Woodwind players need to bring spare reeds and cleaning cloths
- Brass players need valve oil.

- Packed lunch each day and enough snacks for morning and afternoon breaks. No nuts (including peanut butter).
- A named water bottle
- Sun hats and/or waterproofs as necessary. Please put sunscreen on your child before arrival. Breaktimes, lunchtimes and activities will be outdoors come rain or shine so please send your child with appropriate clothing.
Step up to Music – Essentials to bring:
- Packed lunch each day, a named water bottle and enough snacks for morning and afternoon breaks. No nuts (including peanut butter).
- A named recorder. You can purchase these from the Musicale Shop on 01582 769712 and collect them on the first day of the course.
- Sun hats and/or waterproofs as necessary. Please put sunscreen on your child before arrival. Breaktimes, lunchtimes and activities will be outdoors come rain or shine so please send your child with appropriate clothing .
Musical Theatre – Essentials to bring:
- Packed lunch each day and enough snacks for morning and afternoon breaks. No nuts (including peanut butter).
- A named water bottle
- Your script, which we will have given you on Day One, don’t forget to bring it each day
- A pencil and a rubber – students will write instructions in their parts (NO pens please!)
- Sun hats and/or waterproofs as necessary. Please put sunscreen on your child before arrival. Breaktimes, lunchtimes and activities will be outdoors come rain or shine so please send your child with appropriate clothing.
Before the Summer Holiday Course, so that we can all have fun, please talk to your child about:
- Respecting the school property and grounds.
- Not dropping litter
- Looking after their instruments. Musicale does not take responsibility for the safety of instruments or personal belongings on the course.
- We will supervise students at all times and members must not leave the school grounds during the day. (Please bring lunch with you, even if you can drive!)
- No phones are allowed during rehearsals. Photos should not be taken of other members of the course or staff unless permission is granted. It is an offence to share a photo of someone else without their permission.
- We will encourage all of the students to be thoroughly involved in all the activities and not staring at a screen when outside of rehearsals!
